Meta Description:
A heartfelt reflection on 29 years of marriage — from a chance encounter at Pizza Hut to decades of love, laughter, and faith.
Have you ever met someone and thought, “Wow… this is the one. I know it in my soul”?
That moment happened to me — and it changed everything.
How It All Began
I didn’t grow up in the “cool, beachy California” you see on postcards. My roots were in Bakersfield — more specifically, Oildale (yes, named because there are oil wells everywhere).
After my grandpa passed in ‘93, I found his little black book with my dad’s number inside. I hadn’t seen my dad in years, but something in me said, this is the moment.
So I reached out.
Fast-forward through Navy boot camp, and I ended up in Pekin, Illinois — ready to reconnect and rebuild that relationship. But God had more plans for me than I realized.
The Day Everything Changed
One Sunday after church, I saw a cute blonde driving ahead of me. Something about her just caught my attention.
So… I followed her. (Don’t worry, it’s not as creepy as it sounds 😅).
I was cruising in my sweet red ‘90 Toyota Celica, and somehow, we both ended up at Pizza Hut — back when Pizza Hut was the spot. I gave her my number and headed home, not knowing what would come next.
A little while later, the phone rang.
“Hey, I can go out on Wednesday if that works.”
And I thought, heck yeah, that works.
That one call kicked off late-night talks, laughter, and a connection I’d never felt before.
The Start of Forever
When I married my wife, I was on cloud nine — well, minus the part where I had to stand in front of a crowd 😅.
We didn’t have much, but we had each other. We believed in each other. And that was more than enough to get started.
Over the years, that belief became our foundation — through raising three amazing kids, building a home filled with memories, and sharing more adventures than I can count.
Looking Ahead
Twenty-nine years later, I can honestly say that one moment of courage — following that car, taking that chance — led me to a lifetime of love.
I’m so thankful for my wife, my partner, my best friend.
And I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for the next chapters of our life together.
