SEO Meta Description: A heartfelt reflection on Peter’s encounter with Jesus after his denial — and the beautiful image of “Chef Jesus” cooking breakfast on the shore.
Today was a great day. I went to church this morning, and it just hit right. It was communion Sunday — the songs were powerful, the message was awesome, and the spirit in the room was alive.
The sermon focused on that moment in Luke 22:61, when Peter betrayed Jesus and the rooster crowed, just as Jesus said it would. That story has always stuck with me. Maybe it’s because I grew up with a grandpa who was a pastor — the amazing Alan B. Stringfellow — whose legacy I’ll share in a future post. Or maybe it’s because my mind tends to wander in vivid, sometimes funny directions when I picture these biblical scenes.
When Jesus Cooked Breakfast
What really got me was when the pastor talked about the first question Jesus asked Peter after all that:
“Do you love me?”
Peter replied, “Yes, Lord,” and Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
Now, here’s where my brain takes a detour. I couldn’t help but picture Chef Jesus that morning — cooking breakfast over the coals. I imagine Him saying, “So Peter, how do you like your fish? Want me to add a little spice?”
Sorry — that’s just how my mind works. I remember things better when I see them in my own quirky perspective.
But think about that scene for a second. You’ve been out all night fishing, worn out, maybe discouraged. Then you look up and see Jesus — the Savior Himself — on the shore, cooking you breakfast.
Are you kidding me? How awesome would that be? I’d be pulling those nets in faster than ever. I can almost smell that meal — perfectly cooked fish, the best bread you’ve ever had, and the warmest welcome waiting at the fire. And just imagine the conversation at that breakfast table… Wow.
The Heart of It All
That moment between Jesus and Peter says so much. Despite Peter’s denial, Jesus knew his heart. He didn’t discard him — He restored him. He gave him a purpose. Peter went on to feed His sheep and share that same love with others.
It reminds me that we all have the ability to do the same — to show love, grace, and kindness in our own circles. Sometimes, we might be the only “Bible” someone ever reads.
So let’s be kind. Let’s show love. Let’s reflect that same Jesus who cooked breakfast for His friends — the one who meets us in our weariness and still says, “Do you love me?”
Have a beautiful day.
